Amstelland Day - Sunday 4 June (9:30-16:30)
With less than a week to go, all hands are on deck at Wester-Amstel preparing for the 15th edition of Amstellanddag on Sunday 4 June from 10:00 - 16:30. Wester-Amstel will once again play a centre role during Amstelland Day. This event, which is organised by Stichting Beschermers Amstelland, allows the public to visit and experience more than 50 sites in the Amstelland region. From nature and cultural history to art and food: everything that makes Amstelland so diverse, special, and varied will be covered. This year marks the 15th edition. This year's theme is "Youth and Amstelland.
The official opening of Amstelland Day will take place at Wester-Amstel. You are able to enter our grounds from 9:30, where you will be welcomed by the waking tones of the ACCU brass band. From 10:00 to 11:00 the opening ceremony will take place. You can expect opening remarks by Wim Zwanenburg, the new chairman of Stichting Beschermers Amstelland, the official opening by Mayor Tjapko Poppens of Amstelveen, a musical overture, a performance by the DC Dance School, followed by coffee, tea, and Amstelland Day cake. here.
At 11:30, 12:30, 13:30, our volunteers will be giving guided tours of the park and gardens. They will tell you all about the typical idiosyncrasies of Dutch 'pleasure gardens', including their histories, garden culture, people connected to them from the distant and not-so-distant past, and the special animals that used to call them home. he tours are free, meet at the stable door to the side of the house. The maximum group size is 15 people.
We have added two new events to the Wester-Amstel Amstelland Day programme. The first being sheep sheering at 13:00, where Joseph and his ladies will say goodbye to their winter coats, just in time for summer.

In addition to the tours, from 11:00 and 16:00 there will be various stalls open on Wester-Amstel. Beschermers Amstelland has their information point, as well as the Historische Vereniging Amstelveen. The Vrienden of Wester-Amstel will have our own stall, offering gossip and refreshments at a modest price.
